Unfortunately for Mr. Mantis, being a dad isn’t easy… and it can even be fatal!
The reason Mr. Mantis didn’t make it to the family photo is because, in many mantis species, the female eats the male after (or even during) mating! 
This behavior is known as sexual cannibalism, and it’s believed to provide the female with extra nutrients to help her produce healthy eggs. So while Mr. Mantis was doing his part to ensure the next generation… he also ended up as a snack!
Sad for him, but great for the little mantises in the picture — full of energy and wide-eyed!
